Storm – Salomon

The exercise was to package a new product for a market not yet tackled by the chosen company.

As I like extreme sports and because I think it always gives designers strong challenges I chose the brand Salomon for this exercise. Salomon is a sports equipment manufacturing company that originated in Annecy, France. Salomon produces for various sports markets, including trail running, hiking, climbing, adventure racing, skiing, and snowboarding. As I love skiing and snowboarding I chose to use this graphic exercise to solve design challenges.
I noticed indeed that, every time you go skiing or snowboarding, you are hungry before lunch/dinner time and you feel like having a snack. But for riders – like Salomon’s users, you don’t want to have a long break but rather eat quickly while being in the ski lift. But,  if you want to do so today , you need to take out your gloves and if your fingers are not frozen you will maybe manage to eat painfully you energy bar. So here is the challenge: how can we eat an energy bar without feeling cold?

Energy bar packaging that can be opened with gloves.

After some research and prototyping I came up with a packaging which is shaped in a way that you don’t have to take out your gloves to open and eat the bar.

I made some research on how to conceive a packaging made of cardboard that only needs a simple gesture to be opened.

The packaging has a specific shape due to his function and strong graphics to represent Salomon’s values.

As you can see on the icons, the gesture to open the packaging is really simple!

Don’t hesitate to tell me what you think!
